The Big 2-9: It's a Squash

Week 29- The week of the Squash

I find that is quite appropriate that this is the squash month as that is a very fall-ish veggie.

Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jabs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you’ve also probably noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments.

So this morning I had to take the standard gestational diabetes test. You go in, they give you a small bottle of orange stuff, you drink it, you wait an hour and then they draw your blood. Easy. I had heard that the stuff they make you drink is nasty. It wasn't really that bad. It tasted like really sweet Gatorade and had a small yucky aftertaste, but it wasn't as bad as all the hype I had heard. The worst part was not being able to eat until after I had my blood drawn, which was around 10:00. I have my doctor's appointment tomorrow morning and will update more once I get am done.

So a quick little update on how we are all feeling. Andrew is feeling great. He is no longer eating any dairy products (which cuts out cheese and ice cream for him, and cream of anything soup and milk in my cooking) and he has been feeling great. I have also been feeling good. I have a few common ailments, my feet hurt if I stand too long, my back hurts occasionally, but more on the rarely side of the spectrum, and sleeping has become slightly uncomfortable at times. But that's really it. It's been a pretty low-key process up to this point. Baby is also doing well. She moves around a lot. I haven't really been able to figure out her schedule like the website says you can.

Two and a half months till our due date.

Family Photo Opportunity after Snow Cones:

This was taken on August 24th on a hike off of Snowbowl Road. If you come visit us in the fall, we will most likely take you on this hike: tons of aspen trees!!
More Maternity Photos:
Us at Buffalo Park with the San Francisco Peaks behind us.

Andrew was dubbed the butterfly whisperer.

This one is one of my favorites. Mainly because of the colors, scenery and the beautiful blanket. Again, thanks Leslie (Mom, can you make sure Leslie knows I love this quilt!)

TRIVIA: Worth 8 Million Points

The English word "squash" derives from WHAT WORD THAT MEANS literally "a green thing eaten raw", a word from the Narragansett language, which was documented by Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island, in his 1643 publication "A Key Into the Language of America". Similar words for squash exist in related languages of the Algonquian family such as Massachusett.

This is a freebie: Though considered a vegetable in cooking, botanically speaking, squash is a fruit (being the receptacle for the plant's seeds), and not a vegetable.

Thanks for posting more pictures, my favorite one continues to be the one that is also your favorite (that almost sounds like a riddle..but not a good one...i should just stick with puns!)
