My Grandpa

My Grandpa passed away Tuesday night. And it doesn't even feel like it happened. It's kind of like when hurricane Ike went through my hometown, trees and branches, buildings were gone. I went back to visit and I could tell something was missing, but I couldn't say what...just that the landscape looked different. The landscape will now, always be different and we will all have to cope, deal, recover and heal from the loss.
Both my sister and cousin have posted very beautiful blogs with some really great pictures of my grandpa. I want to link back to them, as I don't plan on repeating those pictures. I'm not really even wanting to blog this, I'm more of a picture blogger, not a word blogger, so for the most part I will let the pictures do the talking.
Here is AMANDA
& ABBY

Amanda mentioned that Grandpa LOVED pedicures. Here's proof! So often I would try to convince Andrew he ought to get one, stating that my Grandpa, in all his rough, tough manliness, even indulged in pampering his feet. He's the only man I know who has gotten a pedicure and owned up to it!

Visiting in Iowa.

One of my favorite things about reading Abby & Amanda's blog is some of the shared memories/experiences with Grandpa. We ALL have a picture dancing with Grandpa at our weddings. Yeah, he did love to dance, but he loved his girls more.

Silly faces! I wonder who taught Emmy to make this face?

When I was thinking about Grandpa, I too, remembered his big rough hands. But, Grandpa, with his big rough hands, booming voice was a gentle giant...a big old teddy bear.

This was the first time Emaline met her Great-Grandpa. I am so happy and thankful that Emaline got to see him on more than one occasion. And I am sad that Baby Boy will not get to know him in person.

I loved him very much and will miss him tremendously.

Very nice blog, meg. I'm going to have to copy several of those pictures to my files. I love, and had forgotten about, the fish face picture. It made me smile. I love all the good (and many of them common) memories that we all have shared.

Thank you so much for posting. I love these pictures. It has been comforting to know we all shared so many similar wonderful memories. I hope you found it to be a bit cathartic, as I did. I wish I could be with you and Abby right now....stay up late and share funny memories. I hope at some point we get/make that chance. Love you and am praying that God comforts each of us.
