The Big Reveal: Emaline's Big Girl Room

TA-DAH!!!

Finally, the room is completed! We pieced it together over several months, sold furniture, scoured Craigslist to buy furniture and really used a lot of items we already had. I love how it turned out. The above picture is taken from inside the doorway.
Taken while sitting on the bed. A few elements that I want to point out. My mom made the curtains out of pink chenille. The sheers are from a few pieces that were made for my sister and my weddings. The baby doll carriage was my grandmother's and then mine. And the painting is "Dancers in Blue" by Degas that my mom painted for an art class a while back( it is my #1 favorite item in the room)
This is a view standing by the window. We already had the chair and ottoman, I just slip covered them in a vintage chenille bedspread that I already had. The chair is the project that I am proudest of accomplishing. I was a bi intimidated to actually make the first cut, but once I got started, it was surprisingly very simple and easy! Hanging above the chair, is her lamby coat and a jacket that I knit for her...both are now too small. And the quilt on the bed was a shower gift from a family friend(thanks Leslie!!!)Here is a close up of the reading area. The lamp we already had. and the picture is of a little girl painting that was also mine when I was little. I am glad that my mom saved some of my stuff from when I was little. Those items definitely add a nice touch to the space.
The lamp we already had, I just found some ruffle trim at a thrift store and embellished it a bit. And the fur dresser scarf was what I wore at our wedding(also used in Emaline's newborn photos)

Flower pomanders that my mom made originally for the nursery. I added the beads to give it a more chandelier like feeling.

And this is a straight view into the room from the door. I love the blue dresser that we bought from junkrestore. It is the prettiest blue and really helps to even out all the pink. And above the dresser is an antique mirror that was a wedding gift...it has also been in the nursery.

Another small detail that I really like about the room: the covered switch plates! I used coffee stained pages from an extra copy of Emma(the one I made the book page wreath out of to cover all the light switch plates. It's small, but I think it adds a lot to the room.

First nap in her big girl bed. Which she LOVES! She loves her big girl bed and her big girl room. We usually just have to mention going to bed in the big girl bed and Emaline runs upstairs squealing "Emmy big girl bed!"
Emaline's first night in her big girl bedroom. She did great! I will admit I was a little sad the first day she slept in her new room. I mean, I was happy that she was finally in the room, but it just means that she is a big girl. And I want her to just stay little.

So there you have it! I have been working for a LONG time putting it all together, slowly, one piece at a time.....so if you wonder what I do during naptime....for the past several months, this was it (among other things as well).

Next up is the baby's room, which should be done this weekend! Stay tuned for Big Reveal #2!
