Quick Post....Why I LOVE Cloth Diapers

I feel that each day I enjoy using cloth diapers more and more. I just finished folding the diapers while on the phone with Andrew....it took 15 minutes. It is definitely a good feeling since we had numerous people tell us that we wouldn't last more than 2 weeks doing cloth diapers. 14 weeks in and still going strong. Did I mention that I LOVE our cloth diapers.

I thought I would help break the stigma that cloth diapers are too difficult and gross to use.

1) Cloth diapers are too expensive. False!! The upfront cost can seem daunting, but you end up saving money in the short and long run. Especially if you have more than one child. (diaperpin.com)
Here is an estimation on what we will save:
You will break even in 21.83 weeks or 5.02 months.
You will save $58.24 in 6 months.
You will save $297.06 in 10 months.
You will save $416.48 in 1 year.
You will save $774.71 in 1 1/2 years.

Money talks- My main reason for choosing cloth diapers.

2) Cloth diapers take too much time. False! If you watch TV you have time to cloth diaper. I can wash her diapers and fold them in the time it takes to watch 1 evening TV show or even the duration of one her naps. It is much quicker if I don't watch TV. Like I said 15 minutes to fold/stuff. Plus you if you run out of diapers instead of loading up the kid, getting in the car and running to the store, just throw the diapers in the wash.

3) You have to touch poop. False/True. Regardless of cloth or disposables the chances of you getting poop on your hands is still high. Just comes with the territory. Right now we just throw the diapers in the wash. When Emmy starts having solid poop we will shake the poo into the toilet and then wash the diapers.

We use the Bumgenius One Size Pocket Diapers. LOVE THEM! I definitely encourage/challenge any and all families to seriously consider cloth diapering. I would be more than willing to lend advice or help troubleshoot.

(we have 3 happy heiney's one size pocket diapers....do not like them. The fit isn't as good.)

Emaline is crying....that's all I have time for.

you really just throw them in the washing machine, squishy poop and all? I thought you had to hose all poop off. If this is true, than I am very excited. wow. also- do you do dry or wet pail? and...do you use the dryer, or line dry?

seriously...i may be asking you more about this. there is a chance we will be living in Romania for a few months and my friend said that disposable diapers are SOOOOO stinkin' expensive...so jude might go to cloth, if i can't potty train him by then. i know he'll be older so might be more reluctant. i've been interested before...but kinda overwhelmed. i definitely want to for the next baby (if the Lord wills).
