First Mother's Day and Lessons from a Five Month Old

Look at my sweet Emmy girl. I love her...she's so happy and smiley. That is her 5 month picture. At her last doctor's appointment she weighed 12 lbs 1 oz and is on the same slope as her previous appointment. So that was good news. She like carrots and sweet potatoes and has just recently had bananas and avocados. She was not to fond of the bananas and avocados, but we will continue to give them to her so she gets used to their texture. But I'll tell you, she knows when we are giving her carrots and gets very excited! She likes to stand up and put weight on her feet, loves mirrors, her exersaucer, her toys, takes at least 3 naps with an occasional 4th nap and is cuter than cute! She can also pick-up her paci and put it in her mouth, at times she will even bend down to get it if she drops it. When she is on her back she can roll to her side to get objects that are within her reach, she can almost roll from her back to her tummy, she likes my cellphone, keys, computer keyboard, calculator and paper.

I am also a 5 month old mom. It's been fun. It has not been as difficult as people/books made it out to be. I think that is mostly the case because the good far outweighs any of the difficulties, in fact the good times are what make it possible to persevere though the rough moments. So what have I learned/what advice can I give....
1) Take advantage of a sleeping baby, get the things you most want done, done first. It is never a guarantee how long the baby will be asleep.
2)Take time for yourself. You will have more to offer your child if you invest in the unique qualities that make you you.
3) Take time with your husband....your child needs a family. It is never too early to show that your marriage matters to your child.
4) Take advantage of all the cuddly sweet moments. There are times where Emmy is sleepy and cuddly and we will just sit and cuddle with her. She won't always want to do that so we will soak it in now. They are the best parts of our days!!
5) The minute you think you have things figured out, the baby will pull a switch-a-roo on you and make you scratch your head again!
6) The dishes can always be done later....family time when everyone is awake and happy is WAY more important.
7) Let your husband parent in is own style(of course knowing that you both are on the same team and are a unified front, with the lessons/outcomes being the same result)- he may not put the diaper on the same way you do, but the diaper is changed and everyone is happy.

Oh, a few people have asked if I make my own baby food. Yes, I do. I have the book Top 100 Baby purees. It's great! Pretty much I just steam the food, puree it in the blender, spoon it in to ice cube trays and stick it in the freezer. Super easy. I am hoping that this will allow me to introduce a variety of foods and food combos which will, hopefully, help Emmy have a taste for most anything. Feel free to ask questions!

That is all I have right now.

Here is more of our Emaline.

Taken this afternoon.

More Smiley Girl on her 5 month old birthday!

She likes to sleep on her side!

She loves her Exersaucer!

I guess I'm technically "fifth" since Abby posted 3 times and Meagan responded. However, I would like to say that I second Abby's comment for more pictures of the padres!

And Meagan, you still need to send me your dear Emmy's foot lenth in inches so I can whip up some cute booties for her :) Feel free to send me her currentish size and a future size you'd like and I'll try to make them as close to that as possible.
