Blogs withing a Blog...Playing Catch Up

Here are Emaline's pictures right at 2 months of age. She isn't quite sure what is going on! :-)

Today Emaline had her 2 month old doctor's visit. She was a champ- she only cried a little bit when she got her shots. She's a brave little girl! She is in the 50th percentile in every category. She weighed in at 10 lbs 7 oz, height is 22 3/8 in, and head circumfrence is 39.6 cm. The doctor said she is doing everything right on schedule. She is holding her head up very well during tummy time. The doctor said that she might accidentally roll over while she doing tummy time and then get the hang of rolling from her stomach to her back.

Things Emmy enjoys: Smiling. She has gotten very good at the social smile and will smile when smiled at.
Mirrors: She likes to look at herseflf in the mirror and will almost always smile at herself.
Drool: She loves to drool. Recently she has begun the chew and suck on her hands. If you put your fingers or hand near her mouth she will pull them into her mouth. It's cute.

Valentine's Day~
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. This year I told Andrew that I don't really want to celebrate it with flowers or gifts. Consider it our take on the Advent Conspiracy. Instead we have invited our friends over for brunch tomorrow morning(I'm making heart shaped cinnamon rolls with pink icing). We also started a LOVE BOWL on February 1st. Each day, for 2 weeks, we wrote a note about a quality we love about the other person. Tomorrow morning we will read the notes from each other. It's been fun to think of things to write each day. Emmy's becoming quite the gifted writer too!

Hair Cut~
As you can see from the previous post, I got my hair cut! AND I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! It is so easy to take care and Emmy doesn't grab or spit up in it. I loved every minute at the salon. I wish I could go every day! I think my hair has also lightened in color. While I was getting my hair cut the stylist asked me where I got my hair colored. She was shocked that it was my natural hair color.

In the Motherhood~
What I have learned in 8 plus weeks of being a mom:
~ All places of business ought to have a drive thru. ie~ the Library and the grocery store. It would make running errands so much easier. It usually takes me longer to get Emmy out of the car that the actual errand would take. I weigh the decision is this is a "MUST" or a "WANT" errand before I stop anywhere. It is especially difficult with the wintery, snowy and icey conditions.
~ I am either highly efficient or a complete slacker. Some days I completely set myself up for success by planning ahead, looking at my list of to dos and systematically checking them off during Emmy's playtime or naptime. Other days I could care less about my list and I take a nap. Both are fun, but I love when I can plan ahead and be on top of my game. I am also learning to let go of the expectation that I will always be on top of my game. So if I was supposed to call you, email you or something else, and haven't, I am sorry. My mind is filled with so much that sometimes things get accidentally deleted. Sorry
~I am learning to not worry about tomorrow, it will have enough things to worry about. Having Emmy helps be to be present in each moment. To enjoy her smiles and coos and not worry about all the things that aren't done or all the things that could go wrong.
~ You really don't truly appreciate your mom or parents until you have kids yourself. You were right mom and dad! Thanks for being great parents!!!
~Pee and poop are almost always funny.
~ I have become quite talented at doing things with one hand: cooking, typing, brushing my teeth, etc.

I LOVE this series: In the Motherhood. A lot of the skits are based on actual stories from real moms. I'll post more of them later.

Those clips are too funny. Oh how I hope the chapstick bit isn't true. Gross just doesn't quite cover it. Told Jay about that one and he about fell over laughing. I love what you guys did for Valentine's too. That's worth so much more than a gift or fancy dinner. I'm glad you like your hair-cut. I too found that style to be easy and it's so cute on you. I sure miss ya'll.

that's a great idea for v-day. Ben and I don't really celebrate it but that is something you can actually do anytime and it would be so encouraging. about cloth diapers...yeah, it's definitely a journey...Ben is tired of me researching; he's ready to go back to disposables. We were using free and clear, rinsing twice, they had been washed 3 times, etc. So, we're doing most things right but I think the small prorap cover has just been too big for him. He's just starting to grow into it. We tri-fold, sometimes snappi...whatever, we just try to get some cloth under those thighs or poop always gets in the leg gussets. Now I'm looking for wahm aio's just to try some and have a few for quicker changes and no leaking. I'm also highly interested in wool b/c I hear wool is best for keeping in leaks and it's a totally different diaper cover, better fitting-like underwear- so I ordered a couple of those. If that works I can keep using prefolds and only have a few aio's for on the go. If it doesn't work I might just get rid of prefolds and get more aio's! I know this is just too many words and crazy! Why can't cloth diapering be an easier transition? Today's world just has too many options- option overload- it takes 20 hours of research to pick a dipaer! Insanity.
